Try This Juicy Watermelon Facial!
My summer fruit obsession is watermelon. Native to Africa, and cultivated as far back as 2500 B.C., watermelon was a valuable and portable source of water for desert living. In India, the fruit was also used when natural water supplies were contaminated.
As an esthetician, I love food that can double as skin treatment. I’ve recently began training on micro current facials and found a whole new way to integrate melon into the treatment room.
With its high water content (90%), watermelon is ultra-hydrating in facials. And it’s rich in Vitamins A and C, antioxidants, beta carotene and lycophene (cancer-fighting substances).
But you don’t have to go to a spa to get a watermelon skin treatment. Here is a DIY Summer Bliss Facial to promote hydration and a youthful glow that’s good enough to eat. And it works on all skin types.
Summer Bliss Watermelon Facial
What?
3 tablespoons of watermelon rind gel (place the white rind in a high powered blender and set on “puree”)
1 teaspoon of organic aloe vera gel
1/2 teaspoon of local honey (natural humectant and germicide)
1 teaspoon of Greek yogurt (lactic acid enzymes for smoothing skin, but omit if severely sunburnt)
How?
Whip ingredients together with whisk or fork. Smooth over face and chest with fingers. Allow to sit 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Pat dry and apply your favorite organic moisturizer.
Tip!
Want to know how to choose the best melons? Start off at a farmer’s market where fruits like watermelons are picked when ripe, not early as with supermarkets. Look for a melon that’s free of dents, bruises and cuts. Check under the melon – if it has a yellow or light bottom, it should be ripe. If its stripes go all around the melon, pass. It’s not fully ripe. Tap on the melon. If it sounds holly, it’s ripe. And lastly, lift the melon. If it’s heavy for its size, it means you’ve got a juicy pick!
Namesta’ Ya’ll. Hope you have a great Summer! Email m
